 The Cornea Society Honors UC Davis Eye Center Professor with Teaching Award

The Cornea Society has named Dr. Mark J. Mannis, professor and chair of the UC Davis Eye Center in Sacramento, Calif., the winner of this year's Dohlman Award for Teaching Excellence.

Mannis was reportedly selected for the award for his exceptional contribution to the field, including textbooks, research and leadership. Mannis' research has included development of antimicrobial agents and growth factors that affect the corneal wound healing, skin diseases that affect the eye, visual rehabilitation after corneal transplantation and the artificial cornea. He has authored over 130 publications and six books on topics relating to corneal surgery and disease.

The Dohlman Award is reportedly given to recognize a lifetime of teaching excellence in the field of cornea and external disease and for contributions to the profession.
