Hawaiian Eye 2016 Oculoplastic Symposium: Live Injection Workshop

Hawaiian Eye 2016 Oculoplastic Symposium: Live Injection Workshop

Saturday was the kick-off to Hawaiian Eye 2016 featuring the Oculoplastic Symposium. This symposium covered both functional and aesthetic topics and included a live injection workshop where botulinum toxin, dermal filler and Kybella injections were demonstrated.

Dr. Joely Kaufman from Miami, Dr. Femida Kherani from Vancouver and Dr. Steve Yoelin from Los Angeles joined me for this special event.  Each is a seasoned injector with multiple years of experience. Together, we demonstrated each product that Allergan, Merz and Galderma have to offer as far as aesthetic injectables, including the Juvederm family of products, the Restylane family of products, Belotero, Radiesse, Botox, Dysport and Xeomin. Generous grants from each of these companies allowed us to hold this valuable session.

Our patients were varied in age, sex and anatomical aging differences. The first patient to be injected had volume deficit in her midface. She had some deflation of the lips and aging of the hands. Her injections included Voluma to the midface, Belotero to the fine lines around her mouth, Restylane Silk to the lips, Radiesse to the hands and Botox to the upper face and neck.

Our second patient was young and just bothered by some rhytids on her upper face as well as her tear troughs. She had Xeomin to the upper face and Restylane-L to the tear troughs. Two men followed, one with nasolabial folds and marionette lines and the other with mild midface volume loss and some submental fat. Between them, Juvederm was injected into the lower face, Dysport to the upper face, Restylane Lyft to the midface and Kybella to the submental region. All patients fared well.

This was an interactive session as usual. Audience comments and questions were welcomed throughout the session and were moderated by Drs. Roger Dailey and Andrew Harrison. There was fantastic audio-visual on site to project the injections on big screens for all attendees to appreciate.

Given the positive feedback of this session and the growing popularity, we plan to include this each year in our Oculoplastic Symposium. We thoroughly enjoy demonstrating the latest plus the traditional injection techniques and hope the attendees have been able to take away some key learning points in order to incorporate aesthetic injections into their practices.
