Verana Health and AAO Launch New Data-Driven Tool for Innovating Patient Care

Verana Health and AAO Launch New Data-Driven Tool for Patient Care

The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and Verana Health last week announced the launch of Verana Practice Insights, a powerful new tool that enables physicians to improve patient outcomes and provide better care through critical data insights and trends procured from the largest specialty clinical database in medicine—the American Academy of Ophthalmology IRIS® Registry (Intelligent Research In Sight).

Verana Practice Insights gathers key data from the IRIS Registry to provide ophthalmologists with a de-identified aggregate view of physician practice trends, patient diagnoses, and interventions across the United States. Furthermore, the Verana Practice Insights software enables IRIS Registry participants to benchmark their individual clinical care patterns relative to a cohort of their peers.

In October, Verana Health is offering member-only early access to physicians who pre-register for Verana Practice Insights. Verana Practice Insights will initially provide clinical trends related to cataract surgery and soon will include enhancements that leverage Verana’s advanced analytics and natural language text processing to provide more detailed information on practice treatment trends. In 2020, Verana Practice Insights will expand to include additional indications such as glaucoma and retinal conditions.

“The launch of Verana Practice Insights further enhances the Registry’s offering and value, becoming an important vehicle for clinical benchmarking and quality improvement. We look forward to working with Verana Health on this initiative to enhance the quality of care for our patients. We call on all IRIS Registry participants to enroll to ensure they can benefit from these insights,” said David W. Parke, II, MD, CEO of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

“By applying analytics to this real-world clinical data, Verana Health enhances evidence generation and provides a much deeper understanding of patient conditions and treatment options. Verana Practice Insights organizes the vast amount of knowledge found in the IRIS Registry into clear, actionable insights that enable physicians to benchmark themselves against best practices and ensure that they are providing the highest quality of patient care,” said Miki Kapoor, CEO of Verana Health.

Physicians can fill out the information form for Verana Practice Insights to determine qualification for early access. Physicians can also learn more about Verana Practice Insights at AAO 2019 by registering for the AAO course “Member Value Tools From the IRIS Registry and Verana Health: How to Improve Your Practice” or attending the Technology Pavilion presentation “Big Data, Better Insights: How the IRIS Registry and Verana are Transforming Practice Intelligence.”
