Prevent Blindness to Hold Annual Eyes on Capitol Hill Event

Prevent Blindness will hold its 11th annual Eyes on Capitol Hill advocacy day on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, in Washington, DC, to talk to government representatives and advocate on vision and eye health issues.

Since 2006, Prevent Blindness and its affiliates have reportedly brought citizens from across the country to meet with members of the House and Senate, and their staff, to discuss the importance of vision and eye health programs and research.

This year, Eyes on Capitol Hill meetings have been scheduled to specifically ask elected officials about a number of topics, including providing $3.3 million in fiscal year 2018 to strengthen vision and eye health efforts of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as providing $800 million to the National Eye Institute in fiscal year 2018. Delegates also reportedly plan to talk to officials about protecting "essential health benefits" as defined under the Affordable Care Act, which includes children’s comprehensive eye exams and vision screenings and preventive services for chronic diseases, in any Senate legislative companion to the House-passed American Health Care Act.

And then on June 28th, all Eyes on Capitol Hill delegates will reportedly attend the sixth annual Focus on Eye Health National Summit at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. The Summit will reportedly include a variety of presentations related to this year’s theme, "What’s in Sight?" If you cannot physically attend the Summit, you can follow the event on Twitter at #eyesummit.
