Implandata Ophthalmic Products GmbH recently announced it has attained CE certification for its EYEMATE system for enhanced monitoring and care of glaucoma patients, making it available for commercial use within the EU.
The EYEMATE system reportedly includes a permanent implantable micro-sensor -- implanted during cataract, glaucoma or corneal surgeries or during a stand-alone procedure -- for direct measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP). Patients reportedly use a hand-held device that communicates data from the micro-sensor in real time to both the patient and their eye care practitioner. Patients can reportedly take their eye pressure reading at any time, providing them and their doctor with numerous IOP measurements throughout the day.
The current EYEMATE system version is reportedly CE marked for use with primary open angle glaucoma patients, and Implandata is reportedly working on other versions to be used in other glaucoma situations.
