ASCRS Foundation, TearLab and Shire to Sponsor Fourth Annual Run for Sight
to Benefit Humanitarian Eye Care Programs in U.S. and Abroad
FAIRFAX, Va. – March 28, 2017 – The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Foundation is pleased to announce that its fifth annual ASCRS Foundation Run for Sight, cosponsored by TearLab and Shire, will be held at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, May 7, in Los Angeles, during the ASCRS•ASOA Symposium & Congress.
Featuring both a 5K run and a 1-mile walk, the 2017 ASCRS Foundation Run for Sight begins and ends at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and showcases the dynamic urban landscape of Los Angeles and the city’s vibrant commercial center. This event will bring together ASCRS delegates and citizens of Los Angeles to raise funds for the ASCRS Foundation. Participants will receive a race t-shirt (while supplies last) with their registration, and all proceeds will benefit the ASCRS Foundation’s ongoing humanitarian eye care programs in the United States and abroad.
“Once again, the ASCRS Foundation is grateful to Shire and TearLab for their generous support as cosponsors of the ASCRS Run for Sight,” said Stephen S. Lane, MD, chair of the ASCRS Foundation Domestic Committee. “Dollars raised will greatly help with ongoing Foundation programs, as well as allow for the beginning of new initiatives. Whether you are a runner or walker, please join in the fun on Sunday, May 7, knowing that while you are getting healthy, you are also supporting Foundation activities that improve eye health worldwide.”
Over the past four years, Run for Sight has raised nearly $81,000 for ASCRS Foundation initiatives, including Operation Sight, a U.S.-based charitable cataract surgery program. Its mission is to eliminate treatable cataract blindness in the United States. By leveraging the combined strength of established charitable organizations and ASCRS-member volunteer surgeons, Operation Sight provides needed care to those unable to access or afford surgery. In 2015, Operation Sight also began offering free LASIK procedures to wounded American Veterans.
In addition to online registration, runners may register for the race at the Run for Sight booth in the ASCRS Exhibit Hall at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Thursday, May 4, through Saturday, May 6, during the ASCRS•ASOA Symposium & Congress.
