Dutch Ophthalmic, USA Unveils Expanded 23-gauge Forceps Line

Dutch Ophthalmic, USA

EXETER, NH – Dutch Ophthalmic, USA today announced the release and availability of two new 23-gauge microforceps designs. The new tip designs, unveiled at the recent American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in San Francisco, have received strong interest from surgeons seeking alternatives to further facilitate epiretinal membrane removal and internal limiting membrane peeling.

Working off the classic Eckardt design, DORC has engineered a 23-gauge reusable microforceps with 200% more grasping strength than its classic version. The new "Eckardt Power End-gripping" forceps (1286.WP06) with shortened tip length is designed to be a problem solver for adherent or difficult to grasp membranes. D.O.R.C. has also released a new 23-gauge ILM microforceps design. Engineered with thin tips for precise grasping and designed to provide improved visualization of thin membranes in the macula region, the company believes it will become an essential tool in a surgeon’s vitreoretinal armamentarium. D.O.R.C. is making this ILM forceps design available in both formats – a reusable instrument (1286.ILM06); and in the disposable Advantage line (1286.ILMD06). The D.O.R.C. Advantage line, introduced earlier this year, has increasingly gained acceptance by demonstrating that it has overcome the limitations of existing disposable instruments through performance and functionality.

About D.O.R.C.
For over 25 years, The Dutch Ophthalmic Research Center (D.O.R.C.) has been a pioneer in designing and manufacturing the highest quality reusable and disposable instruments, cannulas and equipment for phacoemulsification and vitreoretinal surgery. Recently, the company introduced MembraneBlue™, a sterile solution of trypan blue (an acid di-azo group dye). MembraneBlue™ 0.15% is the only FDA approved ophthalmic solution to selectively stain membranes during ophthalmic surgical vitrectomy procedures. It is intended to be applied directly on the areas where membranes could be present, staining any portion of the membrane which comes in contact with the dye.
