Philanthropists and Champion Skiers to Raise Money for Clinic in Manang, Nepal Salt Lake City, UT
February 24, 2014 – ManagementPlus, Inc. provider of ophthalmic-specific EHR solutions, today announced its central role as organizer and contributor to the first annual Cure Blindness Valdez charity fundraising event, to be held April 27 through May 3, 2014 in Valdez, Alaska. The event, which will be led by Mark Archibald Chairman of ManagementPlus and hosted by Geoff Tabin, MD, co-founder of the Himalayan Cataract Project will bring together business leaders, champion skiers, and philanthropists for a week of heli-skiing in order to raise money for construction of a permanent, primary eye care facility in Manang, a village in central Nepal that serves as central hub for several important land routes.
The 2014 event marks the premier of an annual event, with an established fundraising goal of $110,000. Noteworthy attendees include Rick Alden, Founder and Executive Director of Skullcandy; Adam Bronfman, Managing Director of the Samuel Bronfman Foundation; Tim Petrick, Sales and Marketing President at K2 skis; and World Champion freestyle skiers Mark Stiegemeir, entrepreneur, Chris Jensen, President at Coldwell Banker Real Estate, and Mark Archibald.
“ManagementPlus is honored to support the amazing work undertaken by the Himalayan Cataract Project,” commented Christine Archibald, President & CEO of ManagementPlus. “Combating blindness around the world should be a humanitarian priority, and this event has real potential to provide aid in an area where it is urgently needed. We encourage other organizations – both within and outside of eye care – to contribute to this event and cause.”
“I’m extremely excited for our first Cure Blindness Valdez event, and even more excited to change lives in Manang and its surrounding areas,” said Dr. Geoff Tabin. “For years, our organization has performed thousands of surgeries and provided impoverished communities the training, materials, and skills needed to combat blindness for years to come. The work we do around the globe is invaluable, and I have no doubts that the people of Manang will benefit immensely from the funds raised from this event.”
Key contributions are provided by Valdez Heli Ski Guides, and Mark Stoner, of Stoner Photography, will film the event.
