ZEISS released a number of significant advancements to its PLEX Elite 9000 Swept-Source OCT (optical coherence tomography) and OCT Angiography platform at this year's Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) 2017 Annual Meeting, and recently received two business communications awards for ZEISS IOL UNIVERSE and ZEISS Experience retail concept.

The new Swept-Source OCT and OCT Angiography advancements were reportedly developed through ZEISS' Open Innovation approach with the Advanced Retina Imaging (ARI) Network, which is focused on exploring new clinical applications for the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease. Through Open Innovation with ZEISS, the A R I Network — which was launched at the ARVO 2016 annual meeting — is reportedly advancing OCT innovation for clinical research and for daily ophthalmic practice.

At ARVO 2017, ZEISS reportedly demonstrated the potential of Swept-Source OCT with 200kHz technology; anterior segment OCT angiography; and new software for advanced vascular assessment for diseases such as diabetic retinopathy (DR) and retinal vein occlusion (RVO). Additionally, the new Swept-Source technology showcased the ability to rapidly acquire Ultra-Wide OCT Angiography montage for visualization of retinal vasculature with up to a 70-degree field of view.
