 Ophthalmologist Wins Bayer Global Award

Dr. Sofia Theodoropoulou, a clinical lecturer in ophthalmology from the University of Bristol in England, was the recent recipient of a Global Ophthalmology Award from pharmaceutical company Bayer for her research on age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

The award reportedly recognizes an ophthalmologist's outstanding commitment and ambition to developing their skills and improving the lives of patients living with ophthalmic diseases.

Theodoropoulou was reportedly selected for the 2016 award for her project, "The Role of an Immunomodulatory Cytokine and its Associated Pathways in the Pathogenesis of Age-Related Macular Degeneration." As part of the award, she will receive $50,000 to support her research.
