Zeiss Names New Global President of Ophthalmology

Carl Zeiss Meditec recently announced it has named James V. Mazzo as its new global president of ophthalmology.

Mazzo will reportedly run Zeiss' Strategic Business Unit, which consolidates all of its ophthalmology activities into a single division, as well as Zeiss' U.S. sales and service center.

Mazzo comes to Zeiss with over 35 years of ophthalmic experience. For more than 20 years he led Allergan's North American and European eye care organizations, led the public spin-off of AMO as chairman/CEO, and led Abbott's global ophthalmology business. He reportedly left Abbott in 2013 to become executive chair and CEO of AcuFocus and executive chair of Neurotech.
