AAO to Host Webinar on Ebola and Zika Viruses

The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) will host a live webinar on the Ebola and Zika viruses and their impact on ocular health in August.

The purpose of the webinar is to increase understanding of how Ebola and Zika affect the eyes, and how to evaluate and manage patients who may contract the disease. The webinar will feature a panel of top experts who are fighting and studying the diseases:

  • Steven Yeh, MD, Emory Eye Center professor of ophthalmology and author of a seminal paper on the ocular effects of Ebola on the eye
  • Camila Ventura, MD, ophthalmologist with the Altino Ventura Foundation in Recife, Brazil, the epicenter of the current global Zika outbreak
  • Rachel Bishop, MD, MPH, National Eye Institute, National Institute of Health, member of an NEI team sent to study Ebola in Liberia
  • Allen Eghrari, MD, assistant professor of ophthalmology, Johns Hopkins Medical Center, member of an NEI team sent to study Ebola in Liberia
  • Moderators: Ashvini K. Reddy, MD, ocular immunologist at the Wilmer Eye Institute, and Mildred Olivier, MD, professor of ophthalmology at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science

Although the webinar is designed for comprehensive and pediatric ophthalmologists, the AAO said it can help every ophthalmologist act quickly for the best outcomes.

The live webinar will take place Wednesday, August 17, 2016 from 5:30 to 7 pm PST. The cost for the webinar is $75 for Academy members and $110 for non-members. Click here to register
