ASOA Announces Daniel Chambers as New President
FAIRFAX, Va. – July 13, 2016 – Daniel Chambers, MBA, COE, has been named the 2016-2017 president of the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA), a role to which he brings more than 40 years in health care administration. In addition to his reputable work as a practice management consultant, Chambers is the current executive director for the Key-Whitman Eye Center in Dallas, Texas. He enters his new role as ASOA president following outgoing president John Bell. ASOA is the practice management arm of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS).
Acknowledging his tenure as ASOA celebrates its 30th anniversary, Chambers recently spoke at the organization’s Opening General Session for the 42nd annual ASCRS•ASOA Symposium & Congress in New Orleans. “ASOA has established itself as the leader in the field of ophthalmic practice management by always keeping a finger on the pulse of, and adapting to, changes in the practice management landscape,” said Chambers. “An organization does not achieve 30 years of success without members who go above and beyond.”
With his MBA in management and health systems from the University of Connecticut, Chambers’ work in the practice management field has ranged from hospital administration; surgery center development and management; and Physician Management Corporations, spanning 140 clinics in 26 states. His organization for the past 17 years covers much of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with 14 doctors, five clinics and one Lasik Center with 200 employees. In addition to serving as a consultant for various ophthalmic practices in pediatrics, oculoplastic and other general ophthalmologists, Chambers has authored several articles for ophthalmic journals. He has participated in speaking engagements with Alcon, Allergan, B&L, Marco and many other entities. Among his other organizational involvements are Mednetworx, Inc., an information technology hosting company, for which he is a board member.
Chambers attended his first ASOA session in 1988. In conjunction with serving as chair of the 2012 Certified Ophthalmic Executive (COE) Review Course for ASOA, he has been involved with the ASOA Physician Relations Committee and served as chair of the 2015 ASOAAnnual Congress program committee. With his longtime focus on strategic business development and legislative and regulatory health issues, he prepares to lead the ASOA Board of Directors in his new role.
“Our board was very happy to receive the outstanding feedback from an independent consulting group on meeting a high level of satisfaction -- 93 percent -- from members with our current benefits. While indeed comforting, we want to continue to seek areas of improvement,” says Chambers. “As president, I am looking forward to making sure the ASCRS•ASOA staff continues to provide critical updates, especially in the areas of major regulatory changes coming down the path by providing ongoing webinars, short reports and regional meeting presentations.”
Since its founding in 1986, ASOA has sought to advance the skills and professionalism of ophthalmic practice management, serving administrators, managers, physicians and office staff by providing support and educational resources for personal and professional growth. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the organization has been hosting various events and contests while members have been sharing their ASOAstories and voting on their favorite milestones.
