NTERI Professor Receives Research Funding for Glaucoma Research

Dr. Weiming Mao, assistant professor at the North Texas Eye Research Institute (NTERI), recently received $10,000 from Cure Glaucoma for his research focused on the molecular mechanisms responsible for elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in glaucoma patients.

The funding will reportedly allow Mao to use surgical samples from the eyes of glaucoma patients for his research due to a limited supply of donor eyes. Mao believes his research will allow for a greater understanding of the mechanism of glaucoma, ultimately leading to better treatments or a cure.

Cure Glaucoma is a foundation reportedly established in 2014 by ophthalmologists at Glaucoma Associates of Texas.
