UNM Pathology Professor Honored by Eye Bank Association of America

Dr. Kurt B. Nolte, a pathology profession at the University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine and chief medical investigator for the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI), was recently awarded the 2017 Gift of Sight Award by the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA), for his work with cornea donations.

The Gift of Sight Award is reportedly presented to professionals who have demonstrated significant support of eye banking and corneal donation.

Under Nolte's leadership, OMI has reportedly shown great support for organ, eye and tissue donations, and works closely with the New Mexico Lions Eye Bank to ensure donations are considered in even the most complicated situations. About one-third of all cornea donations that take place in New Mexico each year are reportedly coordinated through OMI under the supervision of Nolte and his staff.
