DescriptionFCI Ophthalmics has received the FDA approval to market its Mesh-Wrapped Bioceramic Orbital Implant for use in enucleation procedures in the United States. The implant is made of the porous, strong, non-brittle biomaterial alumina (AL2, O3), and Bioceramic orbital implants insert easily into orbital socket and will not cling to surrounding tissue. Improved interconnectivity between pores enhances vascularization. Implants may be easily drilled without crumbling.
Features
  • The extensive pore system enhances fibrovascular ingrowth which keeps the implant from migrating and allows the secure attachment of extraocular muscles, thereby improving implant motility.
  • The implant can be coupled directly to the prosthesis through FCI's unique hydroxyapatite-coated titanium peg and sleeve system.
  • This allows a wide range of prosthetic movements in complete synchrony with the natural eye.
  • Available in 4 sizes from 16-22mm diameters.
  • The Mesh-Wrapped Bioceramic Orbital Implant is lightweight (½ the weight of the HA) and easy to insert.
  • Bioceramic orbital implants insert easily into orbital socket and will not cling to surrounding tissue.
  • Improved interconnectivity between pores enhances vascularization.
