Applanation Tonometers

The measurement of IOP using applanation tonometers is commonplace. These instruments measure intraocular pressure by determining the amount of force necessary to flatten a corneal surface of constant size. The classic example is the Goldmann's applanation tonometer, an instrument for measuring intraocular pressure which eliminates the effects of scleral resistance.
