DescriptionFCI Ophthalmics has received the FDA approval to market its Mesh-Wrapped Bioceramic Orbital Implant for use in enucleation procedures in the United States. The implant is made of the porous, strong, non-brittle biomaterial alumina (AL2, O3), and Egg-Shaped Bioceramic orbital implants insert easily into orbital socket and will not cling to surrounding tissue. Improved interconnectivity between pores enhances vascularization. Implants may be easily drilled without crumbling.
Features
  • The extensive pore system enhances fibrovascular ingrowth which keeps the implant from migrating and allows the secure attachment of extraocular muscles, thereby improving implant motility.
  • The implant can be coupled directly to the prosthesis through FCI's unique hydroxyapatite-coated titanium peg and sleeve system.
  • This allows a wide range of prosthetic movements in complete synchrony with the natural eye.
  • Available in 4 sizes from 16-22mm diameters.
  • The Mesh-Wrapped Bioceramic Orbital Implant is lightweight (½ the weight of the HA) and easy to insert.
    • Insert easily into orbital socket and will not cling to surrounding tissue.
    • Improved interconnectivity between pores enhances vascularization.
    • Implants may be easily drilled without crumbling.
