Flicker-Defined Form Perimetry/Standard Automated Perimetry

2-in-1 perimetry with the Heidelberg Engineering Perimeter (HEP) offers the appropriate stimulus for different stages of disease. The Flicker-Defined Form (FDF) stimulus is designed to detect visual field loss in patients with early glaucoma while Standard Automated Perimetry (SAP) is best suited for patients with moderate to severe progressive glaucoma.

The HEP is a monitor-based perimeter that offers a full set of standard visual field tests for the central 10°, 24°, and 30° as well as an extension to the periphery up to 60°. It uses three different kinds of Adaptive Staircase Thresholding Algorithm (ASTA) strategies to cover a broad range of applications including a time-saving screening test.

  • Description: The Heidelberg Engineering Perimeter (HEP) provides 2-in-1 perimetry, which enables clinicians to detect visual field loss at early stage of disease using Flicker-Defined Form perimetry and provides the means to manage progression of the disease at later stages using Standard Automated Perimetry (SAP). The HEP also offers a 30-second screening strategy to balance the demand for a quick visual field assessment with the need for sufficient accuracy in a busy practice. The monitor-based system is proven to deliver equivalent results to a projection-type perimeter, and its compact design allows for ideal fit in every practice.
The HEP uses three different kinds of Adaptive Staircase Thresholding Algorithm (ASTA) strategies and the ASTA Follow-Up tests reduce the test time of follow-up examinations by using data from previous scans to guide the test. Designed to track every stage of disease, HEP offers Functional Change Analysis (FCA), a trend analysis system that monitors subtle change in early disease via FDF perimetry and then manages long-term follow-up for advanced glaucoma using SAP.
