D-EYE Introduces the ImageVault™ for HIPAA Compliant Storage and Analysis of Retinal Images
Combining the smartphone-based digital ophthalmoscope with a new cloud-based encrypted patient record system powered by TreVia Digital Health, the D-EYE system provides a secure “mobile to cloud” platform for hospitals, clinics, and healthcare professionals
Padova, Italy and Pasadena, Calif. – October 13, 2016 –
D-EYE Srl, the pioneering developer of smartphone-based retinal screening, announced today the availability of the ImageVault™, a HIPAA compliant cloud-based data management platform, to U.S. customers. The platform allows healthcare practitioners to quickly and securely move D-EYE retinal examinations from their smartphones and easily store, analyze, and share them for further assessment.
“We are extremely pleased to announce the introduction of the ImageVault™ to our U.S. customers,” said D-EYE CEO Richard Sill. “It truly completes our mission of delivering a turnkey, secure, smartphone-based retinal imaging system for our customers and amplifies D-EYE’s key role in allowing for telemedicine consultations between medical practitioners on a broad variety of health issues.”
The use of smart phone applications in the medical field is growing exponentially each year. The D-EYE lens system and the ImageVault™ demonstrate an early, first-to-market application that meets patient privacy compliance, opening the door for broader use of health related mobile applications on a global scale.
“For the first time, practitioners and regulatory compliance managers can feel comfortable that patient information will be secure from a mobile device to a permanent cloud based patient record,” stated Sill. “With the smartphone now one of the most ubiquitous technologies on the planet, we have created a platform that will become the standard for recording and immediate sharing of vital patient information in seconds.”
After retinal images or videos are recorded, a simple press of “save” sends those images securely to the ImageVault™, providing an Internet connection is in place. If connection to the Internet is delayed, the images remain in the encrypted, password protected D-EYE application in the smartphone until they can be transmitted.
“We are excited about the opportunity to partner with a leading innovator. Through our partnership with D-EYE, customers enjoy a simple, secure, and affordable way to store retinal images and results, which includes real-time access to those images anytime, anywhere,” said TreVia Digital Health President, Maureen Peszko. “This relationship brings together leading smartphone camera technology and innovative telehealth software to allow medical care professionals to manage a variety of eye health issues in the most efficient and patient-sensitive way possible.”
Invented by Italian Ophthalmologist Dr. Andrea Russo, the D-EYE retinal imaging system is quickly becoming the modern digital ophthalmoscope. The breakthrough lens design eliminates corneal glare, a common issue when using a traditional ophthalmoscope. The D-EYE lens attaches to Apple iPhones 5, 5S, SE, 6, 6S, 6+, 6S+ (7 in December) via a customized “quick release” magnetic bumper. The bumper aligns the D-EYE lens with the camera and LED light source of the smartphone to capture images and videos of the posterior of the eye.
The D-EYE smartphone-based digital ophthalmoscope is ideal for the screening and possible detection and monitoring of a variety of medical disorders, including glaucoma, later stage diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, hypertensive retinopathy, and various optic nerve conditions.
Use of the ImageVault™ allows for the secure storage of a formal D-EYE-generated patient record of images and videos, making them accessible to providers where and when needed for assessment and comparison, allowing the entire healthcare team to effectively engage in the patient’s treatment plan. The telemedicine services offered by D-EYE will prove particularly beneficial in rural locales, bringing critical eye screening services to people in need.
“A secure ‘mobile to cloud’ retinal imaging solution opens the door to better serving the millions of people who suffer from vision loss,” Sill added. “Given that 80% of these people could have been helped with earlier intervention, we have a tremendous opportunity to engage and service both the medical community and general population with an easy-to-use device that provides instant results to help determine possible immediate patient treatment.”
The D-EYE ImageVault™ is a subscription service, available now to U.S. customers for $50 per month for unlimited images. Users can also save $100 by purchasing a full year of service for $499.
