NIDEK Launches the Mirante SLO Model

NIDEK CO., LTD. has announced the launch of the Mirante SLO model, an addition to their Mirante portfolio of diagnostic multimodal imaging devices.

Building on the success of the industry-leading Mirante SLO/OCT model, released in August 2019 as a multimodal fundus imaging platform that combines high definition SLO and OCT with ultra wide-field imaging, the new Mirante SLO model is developed to meet market demand for a model specifically with SLO function that maintains advanced functionality and imaging capabilities.

Similar to the Mirante SLO/OCT model, the SLO model captures high-quality color images, fundus autofluorescence (FAF) and unique Retro mode images. Fluorescein angiography (FA) and indocyanine green angiography (ICG) are available as optional add-ons.

For color SLO imaging, three separate RGB detectors simultaneously scan different depths of the retina with red, green, and blue wavelengths, producing unsurpassed color representation. The unique Retro mode modality is a non-invasive technique for visualizing pathologies deeper than the retinal pigment epithelium and detecting pathologic changes in the choroid. The pseudo-3D images from Retro mode allow better clinical appreciation of the extent of the pathology.

The optional wide-field adapter enables 163° ultra wide-field imaging with a single image capture.* The ultra wide field modality can be used with Color, Retro mode and FA/ICG for detailed evaluation of pathologies from the fovea to the extreme periphery. The FlexTrack algorithm corrects image distortion due to unstable fixation and enhances image-averaging quality.

In addition, a new function for the SLO/OCT and SLO models has been added, called Fly Through which registers and synchronizes images from different modalities to view the same area while scrolling through the region of interest. This feature can shorten diagnosis time and improve examination efficiency.

“Multiple imaging modalities are becoming increasingly important for diagnosis and follow-up of retinal disease,” says Motoki Ozawa, President and CEO of NIDEK CO., LTD. “With the addition of the Mirante SLO model, we provide imaging options that are better suited to the unique needs.”
