Ophthalmic Women Leaders (OWL)
BODEGA BAY, CA—November 10, 2011—Ophthalmic Women Leaders (OWL) today announced that they have appointed Jan Beiting, Principal of Wordsmith Consulting, as its new president, succeeding Pamela Gleeson. In addition, Marsha Link, PhD, has been named the new Vice President/President-Elect of the organization.
“I am thrilled to be serving as president, and to be a part of an organization about which I’m very passionate," said Beiting. “This is an exciting time for the ophthalmic industry, with many new technologies and treatments now available, and I look forward to working with Marsha and the whole OWL team on reaching out to even more women in the industry, and expanding our offerings.”
Beiting is one of the four founding members of OWL, and has been actively involved with the organization for the past eight years. Prior to her appointment as president, she served as Board secretary and member of the executive committee. Beiting has a long history in ophthalmology, having previously held positions as the executive editor of EyeWorld, in addition to serving as Director of Education and Communications for the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ASCRS). She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science & International Studies from North Carolina State University.
“I am excited to be involved with OWL and the great group of women in the organization. I am honored to take on the role of Vice President/President-Elect,” said Link. “I have spent the past couple years in OWL focusing my efforts, with committee co-chair, Heather Ready, developing OWL’s mentoring and coaching program, as well as writing the Woman to Woman column in the OWL eNews. I am eager to continue my work with others to further expand OWL’s programs to ensure its success and sustainability.”
Marsha Link, PhD, serves as Principal of Link Consulting, a firm she founded in 2000, specializing in executive coaching, leadership development and strategic planning. She is an experienced professional with 25+ years working effectively with a variety of people in diverse environments. She was co-founder of Chiron Vision and her clients include those not only in ophthalmology, but others in the larger healthcare space. Her professional experience includes teaching graduate level courses in HR management, designing and delivering customized professional development programs, and facilitating board development. Link earned her M.S. in Counseling and Personnel Services from Purdue University and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Fielding Graduate University.
