Optos Unveils Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imaging Device

Medical retinal imaging company Optos plc has announced last week the US launch of Monaco, the first ultra-widefield (UWF) imaging device combined with Optical Coherence Tomography. Optos is a part of Nikon Corporation.

Monaco, a new compact desk-top UWF retinal imaging device, provides greater imaging functionality and expands the Company’s product portfolio for the ophthalmic markets.  Monaco represents the Company’s first combined imaging device with ultra-widefield colour imaging, 3-in-1 colour depth imaging and autofluorescence (AF) modalities combined with OCT.  A comprehensive exam including ultra-widefield imaging and OCT, which delivers information on structure and function of the retina, has been shown to enhance pathology detection and disease management and to significantly improve clinic flow.

"I am delighted to unveil Monaco, our newest offering for the ophthalmic market. The addition of OCT to our ultra-widefield retinal imaging device offers a more comprehensive array of imaging tools in one machine enabling eye care practitioners to see and treat retinal pathology earlier and more effectively.  We are extremely excited by the opportunities this product brings to the business and to our customers,” commented Optos CEO Robert Kennedy.
