Cassini’s Chief Medical Officer Mark Packer, MD is scheduled to present the company’s core technology in refractive cataract surgery in the upcoming 2018 Ophthalmology Innovation Summit. The summit takes place on April 12 in Washington DC and connects scientists, physicians, regulators, and business leaders to drive innovation within the eye-care market.
Dr. Packer will present an update on the company’s patented “Total Corneal Astigmatism” technology enables surgeons to achieve the desired refractive outcomes after cataract surgery. “Direct measurement of the posterior cornea for the correction of astigmatism is becoming the hallmark of accurate refractive cataract surgery,” notes Dr. Packer. “We are excited to see surgeons and patients around the world benefitting from Cassini’s groundbreaking technology.”
In his presentation, Dr. Packer will highlight the integration of Cassini preoperative imaging and diagnostic capabilities with iris registration for accurate correction of cyclorotation during femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery (FLACS). Correction of cyclorotation is critical to the implantation of toric intraocular lenses for the reduction or elimination of astigmatism. Imaging and iris registration with Cassini allows increased efficiency in the cataract surgery workflow by eliminating the need for marking the eye with ink. In addition, wireless transmission of preoperative diagnostic data from Cassini reduces the risk of transcription errors and relieves the surgeon of second-guessing in the operating room.
