 Prevent Blindness Declares June as Cataract Awareness Month

Prevent Blindness has declared June as Cataract Awareness Month, and offers some resources to help practitioners educate patients about the condition.

According to Prevent Blindness, cataract is responsible for 51 percent of world blindness. An estimated 25.7 million currently suffering from the condition in the U.S., with research projections estimating that number will increase to 38.5 million by 2032 and 45.6 million in 2050.

To help educate patients about the risk factors, symptoms and treatment options for cataract, Prevent Blindness offers a free online guide on cataract. Additionally, the organization has an online Cataract Surgery guide that discusses all aspects of cataract surgery, as well as how to choose a surgeon.
