 AAO Visits Congress, Honors Nine Legislators for Eye Care Efforts

The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) recently visited Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. to discuss issues affecting medical and surgical eye care, and to honor nine members of Congress whose legislative efforts are helping to preserve patient access to quality medical eye care.

Eye physicians and surgeons representing AAO reportedly held meetings with their respective members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives to discuss critical issues that impact the quality of care their patients receive.

And AAO presented Visionary Awards to the following legislators for their important efforts to advocate for enhancing and preserving access to quality eye care in the United States:

  • Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa

  • Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
  • Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo.
  • Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga.
  • Rep. Doris Matsui, D-Calif.
  • Rep. Peter Roskam, R-lll.
  • Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz.
