Paragon BioTeck Names UNC Ophthalmology Student 2017 Koch Kellan Scholar

Ophthalmic pharmaceutical and device company Paragon BioTeck, Inc. has named Xinxin Zhang, a third-year student at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, as its 2017 Koch Kellan Scholar.

Each year, the Koch Kellan Scholarship is reportedly awarded to an outstanding graduate medical student committed to pursuing a clinical, teaching or research career in ophthalmology.

According to Paragon BioTeck, Zhang's experiences with poverty as a child in both China and the United States exposed her to many treatable eye conditions at an early age and sparked her desire to serve. After spending last year researching dry eye disease and leading UNC’s student-run ophthalmology clinic, Zhang is reportedly committed to bringing ophthalmological innovation to the rural areas of the state she has come to call home.
