In a new study, LA BioMed researcher Dr. Sherwin Isenberg reports a low-cost, easily accessible eye drop for preventing and treating eye disease is just as effective as antibiotics in treating bacterial keratitis.
Isenberg and his team reportedly researched povidone-iodine 1.25% ophthalmic solution and found it to be as effective for the treatment of bacterial keratitis as two antibiotics, neomycin-polymyxin B-gramicidin and ciprofloxacin 0.3%, in areas of the world where the use of effective topical antibiotics may not be an option.
The study was recently published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology.
