Kowa Optimed, Inc
New Genesis‐Df offers both color and fluorescein angiography (FA) retinal photography
TORRANCE, CA – Kowa Optimed, the world leader in medical ophthalmic solutions,
announced today the launch of their new handheld retinal camera, the Genesis‐Df. The
FDA, in accordance with their marketing standards for medical devices, has recently
approved the Genesis‐Df to be used for color and fluorescein angiography (FA) retinal
photography.
Ideal for pediatric ophthalmologists, the Genesis Df is handheld making it easier to take
clear pictures. Dr. Daniel M. Laby, pediatric ophthalmologist and professor at the
Harvard Medical School currently uses it in his practice. Furthermore, the Genesis‐Df’s
FA mode facilitates the concise identification and diagnosis of several common retinal
conditions such as age‐related macular degeneration (AMD).
Like its predecessor, the Genesis‐D, the Genesis‐Df is integrated with a 2 megapixel
digital camera, and is equipped with ID input, one‐handed focusing and shooting
operations, and a power supply unit that can be used as a camera holder. It has an
angle of field of horizontal 30” and vertical 25”, with a 5 mm working distance. It
features a 2.5‐inch TFT LCD monitor, a Compact Flash (Type 1) recording media, and
three types of selectable image recording formats. The Genesis‐Df also includes a trunk case, foot switch, and indirect lens holders for +28D, +60D, and +90D aspherical
lenses. It has an AC100V‐AC240V 50/60HZ power supply, and 150VA power
consumption.
