Topcon Medical Systems, Inc
Paramus, NJ, September 24, 2009 – Topcon Medical Systems, Inc. has announced it has received FDA 510(k) clearance for the new TRC‐NW7SF Mark II Digital Fundus Camera. Topcon will immediately begin to market the device, with a formal launch planned for this year’s American Academy of Ophthalmology Meeting in San Francisco.
The TRC‐NW7SF Mark II combines mydriatic and non‐mydriatic functions into a single device, which can capture retinal images through a dilated as well as an undilated pupil with high‐quality results. The camera can be used to perform various documentation procedures, including intravenous fluorescein angiography, and non‐mydriatic full‐color retinal screening for diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. Observing images obtained from the NW7SF Mark II are comparable to viewing the same images through an ophthalmoscope; either in full color or monochromatic modes, all with minimal delay in
image capture.
With the ability to connect via Topcon’s EyeRoute® system, imaging management information collected with the NW7SF Mark II can be quickly viewed, compared, organized, annotated and shared. Networking through its industry leading web‐browser interface means that images and data can be accessed at any time from any location with internet access.
“I’m impressed with the peripheral shots I took on a fairly difficult patient. It’s much better than I expected of a non‐myd,” stated Tim Bennett, CRA, OCT‐C, FOPS.
Topcon’s Director of Marketing for Imaging Products, Lon Dowell, says the NW7SF Mark II modernizes ophthalmic imaging by offering the combination of an advanced mydriatic and non‐mydriatic camera in a single, ergonomic and cost‐effective device. “Until now, most retinal cameras have been specifically manufactured to be operated by a highly trained photographer,” he says. “But now we can bridge the gap in staff training to provide for the needs of a growing patient population, and give the comprehensive ophthalmologist a better tool to help diagnose and treat many sight‐threatening illnesses.”
