Sacramento, CA (March 2, 2009) - Today, United Sight introduced their board of directors, a group that comprises a mixture of Ophthalmic industry veterans as well as experts from the non-profit sector and media. “I believe that this mixture of talents will combine to form a group that can deliver far more than the sum or its parts.” commented Bryan Farrell from founding member OIS (

INAUGURAL EVENT
United Sight’s inaugural event is scheduled for October 28, 2009 in San Francisco California. We will be joining SF Project Homeless Connect to deliver free eye exams to San Francisco’s homeless population. Ophthalmologists and industry professionals are encouraged to schedule another day to their AAO trip (AAO’s Annual Meeting is scheduled to take place from Oct 24 - 27) for this worthwhile cause.
ABOUT SF PROJECT HOMELESS CONNECT
In October 2004, 278 volunteers engaged in a survey of the homeless in downtown San Francisco, which consists of a 60-square block area in the Tenderloin district where 85% of the City’s social services currently exist. Four years later, Project Homeless Connect enlists over 1000 volunteers at each event to engage homeless San Franciscans and connect them to needed services. Now a bi-monthly event, PHC volunteers work to connect the homeless with: Dental Services, DMV IDs, Eyeglasses, Family Services, Food, HIV testing, Housing Information, Hygiene Products, Medical Care, Mental Health Services, Methadone and Needle Exchange and much more. For more information please visit SF Project Homeless Connect at http://projecthomelessconnect.com.
LONG TERM
United Sight seeks to become an integral part of the large ophthalmic symposia by taking advantage of the opportunities to bring these groups together at a unique time when all three are in the same location. Future expansion may include involvement with ASCRS as well as international and optometry events during the year. Please visit www.unitedsight.org to find out how you can participate.
ABOUT UNITED SIGHT
United Sight was founded in 2009 to help communities visited by Ophthalmic meetings deliver free eye exams. Our goal is to bring together non-profit organizations, with physicians and industry personnel to put on events that could not be produced with the participation of only one of those groups. Physicians who are interested to helping out at the October 28 event should contact United Sight at (www.unitedsight.org).
