Marlborough, MA, February 25, 2009 – Optos Inc, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Optos plc, a leading medical retinal imaging technology company, announced that its optomap® Retinal Exam was featured on CBS The Doctors a popular daytime talk show syndicated throughout North America, which according to a recent article in The New York Times, draws an average of 2 million viewers.

The segment, which aired February 12, 2009, touted the optomap® Retinal Exam as “a high tech eye exam that predicts your medical future.” Kerry Assil, MD of Assil Eye Institute, Los Angeles, a frequent guest on the show said “The optomap® Retinal Exam was the perfect instrument for viewers to see images of what a retina looks like, either healthy or having disorders ranging from diabetes to melanoma. The fact that I am able to get an ultra-widefield view of the retina then have the permanent documentation so I can compare images year to year is ideal.”

“Our market leading technology that produces ultra widefield images of the retina, provides doctors with an extremely valuable clinical tool to facilitate the early detection of both eye and non-eye disease, educate patients about their condition and promote positive patient outcomes,” said Thomas G. Daniells, VP Marketing, Optos Inc. “This national exposure will help to increase consumer awareness of the need for annual eye exams that include the optomap® Retinal Exam.”

Optos plc is a leading medical retinal imaging technology company. Both eye and non-eye diseases often first exhibit in the periphery of the retina. These are very difficult to detect clinically with conventional examination equipment and techniques. Optos' devices produce ultra wide-field, high-resolution images of approximately 82% of the retina, something no other device is capable of doing in any one image. The images provide optometrists and ophthalmologists with enhanced clinical information which facilitates the early detection, management and treatment of disorders and diseases evidenced in the retina such as retinal detachments and tears, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. Retinal imaging can also indicate evidence of non-eye or systemic diseases such as hypertension and certain cancers. To view The Doctors segment go to www.optomap.com.
