NEW: Inflatable Orbital Tissue Expander From FCI Ophthalmics

FCI Ophthalmics

FCI Ophthalmics, Inc. is introducing a brand new Orbital Tissue Expander (OTE), a clever inflatable device used in the treatment of anophthalmia, congenital microphthalmia and acquired anophthalmia from cases such as early ocular tumors or trauma.

The OTE facilitates the normal growth of orbital soft tissues and bone to achieve facial symmetry.

FDA approved to market in the USA, the OTE was designed by Dr. David Tse (Bascom Palmer Eye Institute) and is manufactured at Innovia LLC. The integrated Orbital Tissue Expander consists of a flexible “balloon/expander” held in place by a titanium fixation plate that is anchored to the lateral orbital rim by screws. A slotted arm attached to the fixation plate allows one to center the OTE in the expanding socket as the orbit grows. Sterile saline solution can be injected as needed into the balloon through a self-sealing injection port. Inflation of the OTE stimulates bone growth by applying pressure on the patient’s orbit.

Inflation of the OTE can be controlled by the physician. The device is easily inflated or deflated without additional surgeries. Periodic adjustments are required to re-inflate the globe to stimulate bone growth and to confirm centering of the device.

FCI Ophthalmics, Inc. is a national company with sales representatives and distributors throughout the United States. Already serving the ophthalmic community with a wide variety of products and devices, FCI now also provides surgeons with a most beneficial new alternative to existing static orbital tissue expanders.
