Two new SPECTRALIS® OCT family models and SPECTRALIS RNFL Analysis Software expand Heidelberg Engineering’s portfolio.
Vista, California and Heidelberg, Germany—November 09, 2008 – Heidelberg Engineering today announces three new additions to the SPECTRALIS product family – two economical SD-OCT models and RNFL Analysis Software. All are debuting at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) in Atlanta.
SPECTRALIS® OCT 2-mode and SPECTRALIS® FA+OCT 5-mode
The expanded SPECTRALIS product family now consists of five versions:
- NEW: SPECTRALIS OCT (2 modes)
- NEW: SPECTRALIS FA+OCT (5 modes)
- SPECTRALIS OCTPLUS (2 modes)
- SPECTRALIS HRA (5 modes)
- SPECTRALIS HRA+OCT (6 modes)
“We recognized that not every general practitioner needed all of the capabilities of our instruments,” said Adam Doherty, product manager. “So we developed the two new models with the generalist in mind. The one thing that all of the instruments have in common is our TruTrack eye tracking technology.”
The first new model has two imaging modes, combining confocal fundus imaging with spectral domain OCT. The instrument has a simplified user interface and is oriented around the work flow of an ophthalmic technician rather than an ophthalmic photographer. The second new model has the same imaging capabilities as the first, plus fluorescein angiography and autofluorescence.
SPECTRALIS scans at 40,000 A-scans per second and uses simultaneous dual-beam imaging to track eye movement. The eye tracking capability enables retinal recognition for automatic follow-up scans and Heidelberg Noise Reduction images.
SPECTRALIS RNFL Analysis Software
The RNFL segmentation analysis will be presented on a single page OU report. The peripapillary measurements are presented and reported for both global and sector analysis.
“With the introduction of the new RNFL analysis, we are continuing our program of adding new segmentation algorithms to dissect all the layers of the retina,” said Kester Nahen, head of marketing and business development. “We believe that combining RNFL analysis with our TruTrack eye tracking capability will show a high level of repeatability and reproducibility for detecting small amounts of change over time.”
The new software is being demonstrated at this week's American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in Atlanta, GA and will be provided free of charge to existing customers beginning on Nov. 14.
