Volk H-R Direct Image Lenses Withstand Sterilization

Mentor, Ohio – Volk Optical, the leader in aspheric optics, has released the H-R Direct Image series of lenses for direct image viewing during vitreoretinal surgical procedures. The lenses’ new glass construction delivers unmatched image quality in a robust design suitable for the rigors of continued steam sterilization.

Unlike competing glass and thermoplastic lenses, Volk’s H-R Direct Image lenses are specially developed from high index glass to handle harsh sterilization conditions without discoloration, degradation and deteriorating image quality and clarity. This construction also delivers better image quality and wider fields than similar products. The H-R Direct Image series is available in four styles. The H-R Direct Bi-Concave delivers wider field (mid field) views for Air Fluid Exchange procedures, and the H-R Direct 20° Prism provides off-axis retinal views. The H-R Direct 1X allows a wider field of view than traditional ‘flat’ lenses, and the H-R Direct High Mag allows visualization of central retinal pathology in greater detail.

The Direct 1X and High Mag lenses are also available with a self-stabilizing design. These lenses contact directly to the cornea, eliminating the need for suture or stabilizing rings and reducing associated patient discomfort and surgical prep time.
