Pfizer Global R&D Deploys HRR Color Test From Richmond Products

Richmond Products, Inc.

Albuquerque, NM – 7 May 2008. Richmond Products Inc. announces the rapid delivery of 170 sets of its acclaimed HRR (Hardy-Rand-Rittler) pseudoisochromatic test for color vision to Pfizer Global Research & Development. Richmond’s HRR test is acknowledged by optometrists, opthalmologists and occupational MD’s as the most accurate and sensitive color blindness and color deficiency testing method of its kind on the market.

In addition, Richmond has provided the test instructions in 15 different languages to meet the global pharmaceutical company’s worldwide needs. The actual test plates are language-independent. However, language support permits administration by physicians and their assistants.

Richmond’s HRR test, now in its 4th edition, has a carefully designed set of plates that differentiate protan, deutan and titan deficiencies and grade their severity. It has been extensively studied in clinical trials at the Medical Colleges of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Southern California College of Optometry and Ohio State University. Results have been published in journals such as Visual Neuroscience and Clinical and Experimental Optometry. The studies proved conclusively the superiority of the HRR test over other pseudoisochromatic plate tests, such as the Ishihara.

The HRR test is a mandatory part of the ‘student kit’ specified by more US colleges of optometry than any other color vision test.

Lloyd Powell, President of Richmond Products, underscored the value of the HRR test in supporting Pfizer: “Color deficiency testing is most important in the pharmaceutical industry since it provides a ‘trip wire’ for drugs that could possibly affect the eye. We are enthusiastic about this order from Pfizer and to be associated with a global leader in health care.”
