Volk Expands Optiflex™ Line With Manual System

Volk Optical

Mentor, Ohio (February 13, 2008) – Volk Optical, the industry leader in aspheric optics, has added a new version of its industry-first lens positioning system, the manual Optiflex™ Surgical Assistant. Developed for maximum control of non-contact lens position and focus, the Optiflex delivers clear, crisp views during vitreo-retinal surgery. Used with Volk’s autoclave sterilizable lenses, the system achieves the highest resolution image quality at a cost-effective price point.

The Optiflex system’s versatile manual controls allow for precise lens positioning adjustments and focus control. Swing and pivot mechanisms allow the lens to be moved quickly and easily out of the surgical field when not in use. The system delivers the best possible views while streamlining surgery and freeing up assistants.

The Volk autoclave sterilizable lenses used with the system deliver a level of optical quality not possible with disposable lenses. Two lens styles are available to provide the high optical resolution required for detailed vitreo-retinal work: a wide field for pan retinal work and a high magnification for central retinal observation. Volk’s patented double aspheric design and high index glass assure the highest possible optical quality with undistorted views. The durable lenses hold up to repeated sterilization for a long service life, a more cost-effective solution than disposable lenses.

Compatible with all leading surgical microscopes, the Optiflex connects easily and the key system components can be removed for sterilization. Titanium construction ensures long product life, even with repeated autoclave sterilization cycles. An automated version with foot-powered controls is also available. Both versions of the system have an automated or manual Reinverter (ROLS®) option.

Purchasing options are very flexible, allowing physicians to choose the lenses and additional system components that suit individual surgical or operational needs.
