Ocular Involvement Reported in Chikungunya Outbreak in India

Ocular manifestations of chikungunya virus observed in south India during an outbreak in 2006 have been reported by two groups of researchers. In a retrospective study, Dr. Prajna Lalitha, from the Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai, and colleagues described ocular manifestations in 37 adults with a diagnosis of chikungunya infection based on the typical clinical manifestations and by the presence of IgM antibodies to the virus.
