Agreement grants US distribution rights for Volk’s retinal lenses and equipment
Mentor, Ohio (September 11, 2007) – Volk Optical has entered into two new distribution agreements with Synergetics USA, Inc. (NASDAQ: SURG), granting Synergetics rights over the next three years to sell Volk’s products to vitreoretinal surgeons in the United States. The agreements cover Volk’s line of ophthalmic lenses, used for detailed examination and treatment of the retina, and exclusive right to sell the company’s new Optiflex™ Surgical Assistant. This revolutionary new vitreoretinal system, compatible with all leading surgical microscopes, enhances surgeon’s visual ability with precision focus and control.

Volk’s patented double-aspheric optics virtually eliminate the distortion seen with other lenses, allowing surgeons unmatched imaging out into the far peripheral retina. The high optical resolution offered by Volk is essential for detailed vitreoretinal work. Optional Self Stabilizing Vitrectomy (SSV®) designs and Autoclave Sterilizable (ACS™) construction mean less patient trauma and faster turnaround.
Developed with leading vitreoretinal surgeons, the Optiflex™ Surgical Assistant is an industry-first lens positioning system. It provides maximum control of non-contact lens maneuvering and focus for clear, crisp views, while streamlining surgery and freeing up surgical assistants. The electromechanical system’s exceptional fine focus capability is achieved with simple manual quick focus and powered foot pedal for precise positioning. Swing and pivot mechanisms allow the lens to be moved quickly and easily out of the surgical field when not in use.
