Avedro Releases Promising PiXL Procedure Study Results

Avedro recently released the results of two studies demonstrating promising results of its PiXL™ Procedure (Photorefractive Intrastromal Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking) for the non-invasive treatment of low myopia at the recent XXXIV Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS).

The first study reportedly evaluated the safety and efficacy of epithelium-off PiXL, with preliminary results at 12 months demonstrate significant improvement with mean uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) of 20/20 at 12 months, and no loss of best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA). The second study was reportedly designed to analyze the safety and efficacy of trans-epithelial PiXL in correcting low myopia and evaluated treatment results in eight patients (14 myopic eyes, -1.62 ± 0.6D, range -0.75 to -2.625D) who underwent the procedure and were followed for nine months postoperatively. Efficacy findings included a mean myopia reduction of 0.75D at nine months.
