UH Professor Develops New Cornea Mapping Technique

Kirill Larin, professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Houston, has developed new techniques for mapping the structural integrity of the cornea, which could reportedly lead to more effective therapies for degenerative corneal disease.

Dr. Larin will reportedly use a $1.7 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to pursue his research. His technique uses high-resolution imaging and mechanical mapping of the cornea to gauge the structural integrity of the corneal tissue. He also hopes to eventually expand the technique to target the retina as well.
