American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Elects President
The American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery announces that Robert Alan Goldberg M.D. has assumed the Presidency for 2016. A fellow of the Society since 1989, Dr. Goldberg has served ASOPRS as President Elect, Vice President, Program Chair, Executive Secretary, Awards Committee Chair, and on the Preceptor, Public Relations, and International Relations Committees.
Dr. Goldberg is a Professor of Ophthalmology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and Chief of Orbital and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute. He maintains a busy academic private practice at UCLA, where he sees local, national, and international referral patients; his practice focus includes advanced orbital surgery, endoscopic lacrimal surgery, and aesthetic oculofacial surgery.
He has published more than 200 articles and book chapters, lectures widely nationally and internationally, and has preceptored more than 25 ASOPRS fellows. He has served on the boards of the California Association of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, The California Association of Cosmetic Surgery, and the editorial boards of JAMA Ophthalmology and Facial Plastic Surgery and The Journal of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Awards include the Lester Jones Anatomy Award, Best Doctors, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dr. Goldberg lives in Los Angeles with his wife Jan, a general surgeon. They have two grown children, Kevin and Gina. In his spare time, Dr. Goldberg enjoys playing music, golf, and running and biking in the Santa Monica Mountains.
He is passionate about medical education, and has dedicated his career to teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. He looks forward to working with the dedicated team of volunteers that comprise the ASOPRS leadership. He is very proud of the tradition of excellence that has always characterized the educational activities of the organization. A core focus of his presidency will be maintaining and enhancing the quality and consistency of Fellowship training.
