A doctor from The Vision Center at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) was recently awarded a four-year grant from the National Eye Institute totaling $1.665 million to study how cone photoreceptors develop.
Dr. David E. Cobrinik — who is also an associate professor of ophthalmology at the USC Gayle and Edward Roski Eye Institute at Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California — expects his research will discover features specific to human cone development, which are important in understanding who goes wrong in cone-related diseases such as retinoblastoma.
