Ophthalmic Women Leaders and Women in Ophthalmology to Host Annual Joint Reception

Reception will feature new OWL Board of Directors, silent auction, and WIO presentation of
Suzanne Veronneau-­Troutman Award

New Orleans, LAOctober 22, 2013– Ophthalmic Women Leaders (OWL) and Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) today announced their annual joint reception, to be held Monday, November 18 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM and to coincide with the 2013 American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Meeting. The signature event will be held at the Downtown Marriot Convention Center. Highlights from this year’s reception include the installation of OWL’s new Board of Directors, OWL’s annual silent auction, and WIO’s annual presentation of its prestigious Suzanne Veronneau-­Troutman Award. The awards ceremony will begin at 6:00 PM and run for approximately ten minutes.

Admission to the reception is free for OWL and WIO members and $25 for non-­members. Registration is available online at www.owlsite.org or at the door.

New OWL Board
This year’s Academy season marks the 10 year anniversary of the Ophthalmic Women Leaders. Coinciding with this milestone event is the installation of the 2013/2014 OWL Board of Directors. Marsha D. Link, PhD (Principal, Link Consulting) succeeds Jan Beiting (Principal, Wordsmith Consulting) as Board President. Heather Ready (Director of Commercialization, Latin America & Canada, AcuFocus), will become Vice President/President-­Elect. Georgette Pascale (President/CEO, Pascale Communications) is Secretary and Public Relations Chair.

Tamara Evans (Marketing Director, Ceatus Media Group) will join the Board as Programs Chair. Laurie Brown (Administrator, Drs. Fine, Hoffman & Simms, LLC) is Membership Chair; Beth Marsh (VP of Business & Corporate Development, Aciex Therapeutics, Inc.) is Development Chair; Jane Rady (Divisional VP, Business Development, Abbott Medical Optics, Inc.) serves as a Member-­at-­Large; Julie Speed (Director of Marketing, IOLs & Refractive, Alcon Laboratories, Inc.) serves as a Member-­at-­Large; Sheryl Stevenson (Content Channel Director, Ophthalmology Times) is Publications Chair; Audrey Talley Rostov, MD (Cornea, Cataract & Refractive Surgeon, Northwest Eye Surgeons) serves as a Member-­at-­Large; and Ellen Troyer, MT MA (CEO/Chief Research Officer, Biosyntrx, Inc.) serves as a Member-­at-­Large.

Suzanne Veronneau-­Troutman Award
The Suzanne Veronneau-­Troutman Award was created to honor the woman who has done the most in the past year to advance the position of women in ophthalmology. This year, Women in Ophthalmology is honoring Joan O’Brien, MD, William F. Norris and George E. de Schweinitz Professor of Ophthalmology, Chairman, Department of Ophthalmology at Scheie Eye Institute.
