New LenSx® SoftFit Patient Interface provides surgeons advancements that promote easier docking, free floating capsulotomies, lower IOP, and improved surgical performance.

  • LenSx® Laser platform continues to lead in refractive cataract surgery innovation and patient comfort.

FORT WORTH, Texas, November 8, 2012 – Alcon announced today its latest release in its series of innovation within the LenSx® Laser platform, the LenSx® SoftFit™ Patient Interface. The new patient interface enables surgeons to improve surgical performance and deliver enhanced patient comfort.

The LenSx® SoftFit™ Patient Interface, which provides all the features of the LenSx® Laser single piece patient interface, offers a proprietary soft contact lens technology that enables the natural curvature of the cornea to conform to a soft contact lens insert. This allows a secure and gentle fit to a patient’s eye while minimizing corneal distortion. The LenSx® SoftFit™ Patient Interface delivers:

  • Free floating capsulotomy in nearly all cases
  • Pristine capsulotomy edges
  • Easier docking
  • Enhanced patient comfort
  • Lower IOP rise of 16mmHg
  • Improved surgical performance with a 66 percent reduction in energy to the eye
  • Procedure time reduced by 34 percent

"In my opinion, the new patient interface is the most significant advancement for Alcon’s LenSx® Laser platform since the introduction of the laser itself,” said Stephen Slade, MD, of the Slade & Baker Vision Center located in Houston, Texas. “Every aspect of the surgery: free floating capsulotomies, lens chops, lower IOP, corneal incisions, patient comfort, reduced energy and speed, are all taken up to an entirely new level with the new LenSx® SoftFit™ Patient Interface."
This new offering furthers Alcon’s commitment to providing surgeons new innovation in laser refractive cataract surgery. The company plans to introduce and demonstrate the LenSx® SoftFit™ Patient Interface at the November 10 – 13 American Academy of Ophthalmology Joint Meeting in Chicago, Ill. Those surgeons attending the conference are encouraged to visit the Alcon tradeshow booth No. 2808, to learn more about this new LenSx® Laser advancement.

“We are very pleased to further expand our LenSx® Laser platform with the new LenSx® SoftFit™ Patient Interface,” said Laurent Attias, Head of Global Commercial Strategy, Alcon. “We believe this represents an important step forward within the refractive cataract market, and further differentiates the capabilities and technologies we offer surgeons through our LenSx® Laser platform.”

The new LenSx® SoftFit™ Patient Interface will become available in most markets by the end of 2012.
