Autorefractor Keratometer (Auto Ref Keratometer)

Common vision problems such as myopia (nearsightedness) or hyperopia (farsightedness) are the result of refractive error. Autorefractors are used to measure the degree of refractive error in the eye, and are suited well toward applications such as differentiating corneal from lenticular aberrations, and assessing pre-and-post refractive surgery patients. The patient focuses their vision on a fixation target such as a hot-air balloon floating over land. Like many ophthalmology instruments, they have spherical and cylindrical measurement ranges of -30 to +25D/±10D respectively. As the line between autorefractor and keratometer is often blurred, the customer should be aware of systems that have separate measurement ranges for autorefraction and keratometry.

DescriptionThe HandyRef-K / HandyRef is a Handheld Ref / Keratometer and Handheld Refractometer that is the portable solution for accurate refraction and keratometry measurements anytime and anywhere. The ARK-1/AR-1 series speak for themselves, surpassing a conventional auto ref/keratometer and auto refractometer with technologically enchanted functions generating greater accuracy and greater clinical information. The ARK-F/AR-F features fully-automatic measurement. Simply by placing the chin on the chinrest, the new NIDEK eye detection camera automatically detects the position of the eyes and measurement starts without pressing any button. Gentle voice The OPD-Scan lll is the Five-in-One true refractive workstation combining wavefront aberrometer, topographer, auto refractometer, auto keratometer, pupillometer and pupillographer. The TONOREF™ III combines the functionality of an auto refractometer, auto keratometer, non contact tonometer and non-contact pachymeter into one device. Multiple measurements can be performed at one sitting, increasing patient comfort and maximizing
FeaturesAnytime-anywhere handheld measurement
The HandyRef-K / HandyRef is lightweight and also has excellent weight distribution. Its compact design makes it easy to hold, balance, and use. Intelligently designed button layout is also useful in one-handed operation.

Full graphic LCD with 3.5-inch color screen
New full graphic 3.5-inch color LCD is 40% larger than the previous model. Clear screen design and intuitive icons similar to the ARK-1 / AR-1 series provide high user-friendliness.

Supine position mode
By tilting the instrument 60º or more downward, it enters supine position mode automatically. When measuring from patient’s side, the cylinder axis is compensated by 90º, and is displayed.

Melody function
For inexperienced patients like children, newly added melody function can be of help. It can ease patient’s anxiety and draw attention.

Pupil zone imaging method
The HandyRef-K / HandyRef analyzes a wide area (Max. 4 mm diameter) pupil zone. By measuring the light coming through the pupil zone in a wide area, more accurate measurement data closer to the subjective refraction is now possible.

SynchroScan Technology
The HandyRef-K / HandyRef adopted an excellent new measurement method; “SynchroScan Technology”. Measurements start when the alignment starts, and locks in the data when alignment becomes optimal as a measurement value. It provides a more stable measurement value more effectively and efficiently.

Auto shot mode
When the alignment / focusing becomes optimal, the HandyRef-K / HandyRef gets the measurement data automatically. If unstable data is included, additional measurement automatically starts.

Large pupil zone imaging method
The large pupil zone imaging method enables the measurement of wide area refraction of up to 6 mm diameter and can indicate the difference between the wide area refraction and central area refraction of up to 3.5 mm diameter.

SLD and highly sensitive CCD
The system combining the Super Luminescent Diode (SLD) and highly sensitive CCD significantly improves measurement capability even in dense cataractous eyes.

Optimal fogging to minimize accommodation
Fogging allows the patient to view the target clearly and minimizes the interference with accommodation even in high astigmatism.

Easy VA measurement with glare test
The ARK-1s provides visual acuity (VA) measurement. A glare source is illuminated beside the chart and the glare VA can be measured.

Simple opacity assessment with retroillumination image
The retroillumination image enables the observation of opacity of the optical media of the eye.

Patient-friendly accommodation measurement
Objective measurement of accommodation is performed with patient's focusing on a target which moves from distance to near.

Keratometry measurement with mire ring
The mire ring is used to measure keratometry. It reduces eyelid artifacts.
Remarkably easy workflow through fully-automatic measurement
Simply by placing the chin on the chinrest, NIDEK eye detection camera automatically detects the position of the eyes and measurement starts without pressing any button. Gentle voice guidance facilitates smooth measurement for any operator.

Selectable and intuitive manual operation
Manual measurement using the large, durable 7.0-inch touch screen is also possible with the ARK-F/AR-F. Alignment is easily achieved by simply long-pressing a position on the screen and an icon. Clearly identifiable icons assure intuitive operation. Moreover, a newly designed hand-held control and tablet control software are available as options that increase operator freedom and productivity.

Large pupil zone imaging method
The large pupil zone imaging method enables the measurement of wider area refraction up to 6 mm diameter and can indicate the difference between the wide area refraction and central area refraction of up to 3.5 mm diameter.

Super luminescent diode and highly sensitive CCD
Incorporation of the super luminescent diode (SLD) provides a sharper and clearer image compared to a conventional LED. The highly sensitive CCD detects the ring image even if the fundus reflection is weak.

Keratometry measurement with mire ring (available for the ARK-F)
The mire ring is used to measure keratometry. It reduces eyelid artifacts.

NIDEK eye detection camera (NEDC)
When the device recognizes that the patient's chin is correctly positioned on the chinrest, the new NIDEK eye detection camera (NEDC) automatically starts eye detection. Since NEDC holds eye position, faster and more precise alignment is possible without wasted adjustment time.

Large tilt and swivel monitor
Since the screen can be freely tilted and swiveled, the ARK-F/AR-F can be placed anywhere in an examination area. Flexible layout and space-saving design contribute to improved productivity and efficiency.
