Anterior Chamber Intraocular Lenses (IOL) / Angle Supported Phakic Intraocular Lenses

Anterior Chamber Intraocular Lenses (IOL) or Angle Supported Phakic Intraocular Lenses are placed in the anterior chamber of the eye, hence the name. This type of IOL falls in the category of Phakic, an implantation of a synthetic lens in the presence of the natural crystalline lens. These PIOLs are used to treat myopia, or nearsightedness. Angle Supported PIOLs are often made of PMMA (Polymethylmethacrylate), an inflexible material. These are convex lenses and are monofocal. Some risks involve possible negative impact on the corneal endothelial lining. Be sure that whichever vendor chosen, the Anterior Chamber Intraocular Lenses are FDA approved.
