FDA Approves Star S4 IR Excimer Laser and iDesign System to Treat Hyperopia With and Without Astigmatism

Johnson & Johnson Vision recently received approval from the U.S. FDA to use Abbott Medical Optics' (AMO) Star S4 IR® Excimer Laser System and iDESIGN® System for LASIK patients with hyperopia, with and without astigmatism.

This new indication is reportedly for wavefront-guided LASIK for use in patients with hyperopia with and without astigmatism as measured by the iDESIGN System up to +4.00 D spherical equivalent, with up to 2.00 D cylinder, as well as other specified parameters.

The iDESIGN System is reportedly capable of capturing five different measurements — wavefront aberrometry, wavefront refraction, corneal topography, keratometry, and pupillometry — in a single capture sequence to help save time during the procedure.
