ZEISS Reports Excellent Refractive Outcomes for Cataract Surgery Technologies, Offers Other Updates

ZEISS recently announced in recent clinical studies its ZEISS Cataract Suite markerless has been show to support surgeons in achieving excellent refractive outcomes with post-operative refractive cylinder within +/- 0.50D (diopters) for up to 99% of patients. Additionally, the ZEISS IOLMaster® 700 with SWEPT Source Biometry™ improves cataract workflow and has shown a cataract penetration greater than 99 percent resulting in 92 percent fewer ultrasound cases, leading to a reduced risk of refractive surprises and allowing surgeons to treat more patients with better technology.

The company also reported more than 450,000 procedures have been successfully performed by over 800 surgeons in 61 countries out of the United States with its SMILE minimally invasive refractive laser vision correction procedure. According to ZEISS, clinical study data to establish safety and effectiveness of the SMILE procedure for Spherical Myopia using the ZEISS VisuMax® femtosecond laser is currently under review by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). So far 336 patients have been treated across five U.S. study sites within this trial, and enrollment for a second clinical trial is nearly completed.

And ZEISS also reported it was expanding applications for the ZEISS CIRRUS™ OCT with a wide field of view OCT Angiography for retina care, and GPA™ with Ganglion Cell Progression Analysis for glaucoma management.
