Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Imaging Systems

Optical Coherence Tomography, or OCT, is advanced technology used for retinal imaging and analysis. This technology provides highly detailed images of the retina as well as the optic nerve. These cross-sectional images are viewable in 2D and 3D, allowing for topographical mapping of the eye including macular thickness. Various pathology can be detected using this non-contact technology such as Glaucoma and Keratoconus. Some OCT products boast additional features such as Microperimetry. OCT is also extremely helpful to measure the changes in a patients eyes overtime and can be beneficial pre and post-operatively for cataract patients.

Another important aspect of Optical Coherence Tomography is the ability to remotely access images and data with vendor software. If the product is DICOM compatible, this information can be input into the Electronical Medical Records (EMR) system to be viewed by various healthcare professionals regardless of location. Regardless of which OCT product chosen, be sure the vendor is reputable and will provide support and service for their product.

    • See the virtual histology of retinal disease. Cross-sectional images and maps reveal the details of retinal abnormalities that are otherwise difficult to see.
    • Determine and monitor retinal causes of poor visual acuity. Assess pre-op cataract and refractive patients to detect and document retinal disease and set expectations for visual outcomes.
    • Assess glaucoma and track change. Evaluate RNFL and optic nerve head for glaucomatous damage. Identify and monitor patients who experience change in RNFL thickness with GPA™ Advanced Serial Analysis.
    • Review results anywhere. Use full analysis capabilities from the lane, your office or a remote location with Stratus review software.
  • Scan Type: Low-coherence interferometry: The Stratus OCT instrument scans an 820nm near infrared light beam from a superluminescent diode across the retina and generates a cross-sectional image of the tissue by recording the scattering profile versus depth of each transverse location of the beam.
